Forever Home Friday Update #1: Mango (Jett) and Roosevelt

Forever Home Friday: Blog Edition

Fellow cat lovers, I am so incredibly pleased to announced we have reached TWENTY adoptions (22 on Sunday to be exact).

For those of you that have followed us since the beginning, you know it’s been a long road to this point. I want to express my sincerest gratitude to everyone that has shared our posts, told their friends about the cafe, backed our Kickstarter, visited in the past two months, and adopted a cat from us.  It’s because of you that we have this one-of-a-kind destination for feline enthusiasts in Grand Rapids, and I have the best job in the whole world: helping cats find forever homes.

If you follow our Facebook or Instagram, you undoubtedly remember Jett and Roosevelt. This unlikely duo were adopted together exactly one month ago TODAY.

Roosevelt started out in a cage when he arrived at Carol’s Ferals. He still had a lot of testosterone from before being fixed, and Carol’s thought he wouldn’t be able to be adopted into a home with other cats. When Roosevelt came to the cafe, he started out a bully. The truth was that he loved to play, and no one would would play with him except Jett.

Jett was so malnourished as a kitten that she remained permanently tiny and remained wary of cuddles. She was always on alert at the cafe, looking for the elusive red dot. After a few weeks of playing together, they were sleeping together and grooming each-other. The pair had become inseparable, and we were so lucky to be adopted together.

Their owner, Colleen, is so gracious with sharing regular updates with us (if you met me, you know that I was IN LOVE with these two, and it was bittersweet to see them leave) and she sent me this email today:

“Dear Happy Cat Cafe,

Tomorrow is my one month anniversary with Mango(Jett) and Roosevelt so I thought I’d send along an update! Last week they had a visit with their new vet and I’m happy to say they are 100% healthy cats! Roosevelt is 12.7 pounds and perma-kitten Mango is about 6.5.

Roosevelt is doing great! I’ve learned to expect that if I’m sitting or laying down that at some point he will come and rub his face on mine. He definitely has no boundaries as to when or where he will plop down on someone and demand affection. He cracks me up so much when he’s in his playful moods too! He will dart into his cat tunnel and no one is safe from his grab- toys or people! He’s well-loved by everyone who has met him since that grumpy face is so deceiving
Mango is such a joy to have around! She is very cautious around most people but she has opened up to affection with me. Most times I come home she waits at the top of the stairs for me for a pet or she will be sleeping on the couch and lets me pick her up for some snuggles. Watching her growth has been truly amazing to me. She’s absolutely obsessed with laser pointers and cell phones screens. If I put on a video of fish swimming she will stare at it for quite some time.

I’ve attached some pictures to this email! Please let me know if they are blurry and I can resend them! I hope everyone and all cats are doing well at the cat cafe! I follow all the new arrivals and adoptions on Facebook! Finally, once again, thank you for giving me my babies. Coming home to Mango and Roosevelt makes me so incredibly happy each and every day.

Best,
Colleen”

THIS! This is why I do what I do.

I want to thank Colleen again for sharing her updates with us. These are the success stories that make all the work worth it.
